Column: A night of camping with a discerning 11-year-old

A few weeks back, I got an app from my brother’s youngest daughter (11 years old). She wanted to give a talk about our motorhomes. ‘That’s very convenient,’ I told her, ‘because we need to test a prototype, so will you go test camping with us?’ She thought that was a super good idea.

It turned out to be a good idea for myself too. Because Ella really sees everything and asks a hundred questions. Everything I take for granted is a question or an opinion to her. ‘Why does this fold like this?’ “How much does this camper cost?” “Do people think that’s a lot?” “I really like the colours!” ’Handy that the cutting board is stored like this!

We went camping for a night with one of the prototypes of our new ID.Buzz Explorer. We worked on this camper for over a year. And we even worked on the revolutionary pop-up roof for two years. It really has become an incredible camper. Twenty years of camper design experience comes together in it. I have put my heart and soul into this together with our designers. This camper has everything you need: a long electric range (487km!), it is small on the outside (only 495cm long), but big on the inside (a 140x210cm bed). As you’ve come to expect from us, the kitchen can be used inside, but can also swivel outwards. Because of its small dimensions, this was a real puzzle, but we are incredibly proud of the result.

Ella’s conclusion? ‘This one is perfect! -Does my daddy get family discount from you?’
